Beta Group: Brave New World
Personal Impressions
Chapter One
Q1) Summarize the action of the scene.
Answer: The Director is speaking of the building and what is whithin the building. The children are there for a sight tour of the place and to find out what they do at the place within each of the building. He goes on to show them the fertiziling room where the action and cloning takes place. He also goes on to explain to them what the Bokanovsky's Process is and how it is in relevation to the action being placed.
Q3) Ask questions about the scene. Has anything in the scene caused you confusion? Ask one of the characters in the scene a question-or ask me a question.
My Question: Who are the people that the Director hire, what do they do? Are they involved with the fertiziling process, are they the one condoning the action?
My Thought: The people that the Director hire are the ones who complete the fertiziling process of the babies and to clone them.
Q5) Describe your reactions to a character, action, or idea you confronted in the scene.
Answer: I have a reaction concerning the whole section of chapter one, meaning "How can one even think to clone another person?" I believe that it is weird and not right to humans.
Chapter Two
Q1) Summarize the action of the scene.
Answer: The director along with the children and Mr. Foster entered a bright room that seemed sunny to the children. The Director brought them there to see what they do to those that they clone and what they teach them. The message being taught is to have the children grow up to hate books and flowers. They want them to hate books because they do not want them to get smarter.
Q3 Ask questions about the scene. Has anything in the scene caused you confusion? Ask one of the characters in the scene a question-or ask me a question.
My Question: Why do they want them to grow to hate books? Why can they not become smarter in their own way of words and life? How come everything has to be decided for them?
My Thought: It could be a reason to control their mind and to get them to beilieve what they want them to believe rather than figure things out for themsleves. They may not want them to reveal their process.
Q5) Describe your reactions to a character, action, or idea you confronted in the scene.
Answer: My reaction is more towards the children's right and safety. They should have their own mind considering things for themselves. i also thought that they should not have been scaring the childrem causing them to be terrfied by the noise. How was the only way to stop them was by handing them the books and flowers again?
Chapter Three
Q1) Summarize the action of the scene.
Answer: The children were all out playing but one of the children refused to, as if something was wrong. The nurse insisted that she did not cause any harm to the child and that she has no idea what is wrong with him. The child goes to visit the pshycologist to see if anything is but abnormal. They now focus on the scene of the mother and father and how they create families. Lenina comes in to explain her side based on having her child, Henry. They were aginest the thought of romance taking over, they wanted stability.
Q3) Ask questions about the scene. Has anything in the scene caused you confusion? Ask one of the characters in the scene a question-or ask me a question.
My Question: Why is the word "Mother" so onscene to the process and the director? What is the differculty of having families, why do they object to it? Are children really not needed or are they just there to bring stability to the society?
My Thoughts: I believe they object to families because they do not want them to isolate from socitey. They would like everyone to be at one place at a specific time.
Q5) Describe your reactions to a character, action, or idea you confronted in the scene.
Answer: A reaction i had was they families do not needed to be created is absurd. No one has the right to tell someone else that they can or cannot produce. If a mother wants children, let her have children unless she is unstable. Children should be well taken care of in health and other reasonings.
Chapter Five
Q1) Summarize the action of the scene.
Answer: Lenina and Henry were out exploring in their helicopter. Henry had to screw the screws back into it inorder to get the machine to take off. They were headed towards a great deal of darkness within the forest that they were passing by. The conditioning that they were brought under made them to be thankful that they are not a beta nor an alpha, though they are glad not to be an epsilon.
Q3) Ask questions about the scene. Has anything in the scene caused you confusion? Ask one of the characters in the scene a question-or ask me a question.
My Question(s): How does a Beta compare to an Alpha, do they have different characterstics? Is one smarther than the other or they both equal in their separate way? What is the deal with epsilons, what are they there for, how can they be useful?
My Thoughts: A Beta is smaller in comparison to an Alpha. An Alpha is stronger in their authority and personality, although Beta's are smaller, they still hold energy for a little compact. Epsilons can be useful for an helping hand.
Q5) Describe your reactions to a character, action, or idea you confronted in the scene.
Answer: How is it that they compare everyone to each other? Is there any equality or is it all competition? They should be of equality instead of all competion, some is okay but all the time, may cause tension between some. I think that all groups should be considerate of others.
Chapter Six
Q1) Summarize the action of the scene.
Answer: Lenina now has a crush on Bernard and henry compares him to a rhinoceros, meaning that she cannot tach him tricks and secrets. Henry thinks he is poor in condition to his conditioning and that he does not respond well to it, though Lenina believes he is harmless.
Q3) Ask questions about the scene. Has anything in the scene caused you confusion? Ask one of the characters in the scene a question-or ask me a question.
Answer: Why is it that Henry feels the need to be involved with Lenia's love life? How does he know what Bernard is like, has he met him personally? What is the point going across through this chapter?
My thoughts: Henry feels the need to look out for Lenina or he personally decided that he just doesnt like Bernard. He believes he is weak.
